한강이나 해변 등 경치 좋은 곳에는 언제나 MASHIL세트를 대여할 수 있는 마실 스토어가 있습니다. 빈 손으로 나와서 충분히 차를 즐기고 가볍게 돌아가세요. 준비는 MASHIL이 합니다. 어렵게만 느껴졌던 차, 이제는 MASHIL과 함께 부담 없이 즐기세요.

At a great place like Han River or the beach, there is always a MASHIL store where you can rent a MASHIL set. Come out empty-handed, enjoy enough tea and go back at ease. Leave all preparation to MASHIL. A tea culture that only seemed difficult, can now be enjoyed without any burden with MASHIL.

Strange look at familiar things

저희 프로젝트의 시작은 낯설게 보기였습니다. 저희가 속한 문화에서 당연해 보이는 것들을 이방인처럼 관찰해 보는 것입니다. 그러던 중 발견한 평범하고도 이상한 거짓말이 있습니다.

The beginning of our project had an unfamiliar look. It was about observing things that seem natural in our culture like strangers. Then we discovered a common but strange lie.

Background

차 한잔 하자는 거짓말

‘차 한잔 합시다.’ 가벼운 만남을 잡기 위해 일상적으로 내뱉는 말입니다. 그러고 나서 우리는 약속한 것처럼 찻집이 아닌 카페에 들어갑니다. 방금 분명히 차 한잔 하자고 했던 것 같은데 어느새 손에 들려있는 것은 커피 한 잔. 뭔가 이상합니다.

There is a phrase which is routinely lied to offer a short catch-up. "Let’s have a cup of tea." Then we go into a cafe, not a tea shop, as we offered. I was offered to have a cup of tea, but I’m holding a cup of coffee instead. Something’s seems not quite right.

Problem

차 한잔 하자는 말이 생긴 배경에는 차를 일상적으로 마시던 모습이 있었습니다. 어쩌다 차는 비일상이자 커피 뒤편의 2인자 신세를 지게 된 것일까요?

The phrase ‘let’s have a tea’ originated from the past when tea was enjoyed on a regular basis. Then why did tea disappear from daily life and become outraced by coffee as a second runner-up?

변화할 기미가 보이지 않는 고전적 이미지

전통적 방식을 그대로 전승하고 있어 다가가기 어렵고 흥미롭지 않은 이미지와 방식

복잡하고 어색한 과정

충분한 맛을 즐기기 힘든 티백, 혹은 주변에서 찾기 힘든 찻집이라는 양극화된 선택지만 존재함

차 문화의 전문가이신 찻집 차사님과 예다학 박사님을 만나봤습니다. 전문가들은 차 문화가 가진 고정관념에 문제의식을 갖고, 새로운 시도가 필요하다는 것에 공감합니다. 이런 것은 차고 저런 것은 차가 아니라고 할 수 없으며, 자연스럽고 편하게 마실 수 있으면 그게 어떤 형태든 차라고 말합니다.

Experts in tea culture say

We met with a tea master and professor of tea culture. Tea experts are conscious of the difficult stereotypes of tea culture, and agree that new attempts are reqruied. Tea cannot be argued and defined, as any form that is natural and comfortable to drink can be defined as tea.

젊은 다인들은

차에 대한 글을 쓰는 커뮤니티의 운영진인 젊은 다인들을 만나봤습니다. 이들은 오히려 완전히 새로운 모습을 원하고 있습니다. 한 다인은 차가 힙스터들의 소꿉놀이 같은 젊은 친구들의 문화로 자리 잡는다면, 고정관념을 깨고 자연스럽게 많은 사람들이 즐길 수 있을 것이라 말합니다.

Young tea lovers say

We met with young tea lovers who operate a community writing about tea. What was interesting was that they wanted a completely new look. One tea lover said that if tea became a childhood-play-like culture for young hipters, it would break current stereotype and naturally be enjoyed by many people.

새로운 시도를 하거나 변주를 줘도 틀린 차는 없으며, 차는 그저 차입니다. 특별한 경험을 소비하는 젠지들에게, 힙하고 매력적인 경험을 제공해야 차를 다시 일상으로 돌릴 수 있다는 인사이트를 얻었습니다.

1. Rental

경치 좋은 곳으로 마실 계획을 세우고 근처 지점으로 서비스를 예약합니다. MASHIL 대여 매장에 방문 후 담당 메이트의 안내를 받고 마실 차를 고릅니다. 메이트와 상담을 통해 손님의 취향, 기분 등에 맞춘 차를 추천받을 수 있습니다. 대략적인 사용법을 안내받고 큐브 차, 종지, 다구(개완, 숙우, 찻잔), 보온병, 돗자리로 구성된 MASHIL 세트를 건네받습니다.

Plan your tea picnic at a great outdoor space, and book your service at a nearby branch. After visiting the MASHIL rental shop, you will be guided by a designated tea mate to choose your tea. You can consult with team mate to receive recommendation on teas that suit your taste and mood. After receiving a brief instruction on how to use the set, you will be given a MASHIL set which consists of a cube tea, caddy, teawares, a thermos, and a sitting mat.

MASHIL에서 제공하는 차는 무거운 잎차 통을 가지고 다니거나 번거롭게 계량할 필요 없이 간편하게 우려 마실 수 있는 큐브 형태의 잎차입니다. 큐브 차에는 베이스, 블랜드, 맛을 조합하는 코드 시스템이 존재해 여러가지로 변주된 차를 접할 수 있습니다.

MASHIL's tea is in a cube-shape that can be brewed easily without having to measure or carrying heavy tea canisters. The cube tea has a code system which combines base, blend and taste, so that you can experience different variations of tea.

2. MASHIL in use

매니저에게 전달받은 MASHIL세트를 들고 마실 장소로 갑니다. 원하는 경치 좋은 자리에 돗자리를 펼칩니다. 리플렛에 포함된 메뉴얼을 보고 다구 사용법과 내가 선택한 큐브 차를 이해합니다.

Take your MASHIL set to a place where you want to drink your tea. Unfold the sitting mat on a space overlooking a good view. Refer to the manual on the leaflet inside the MASHIL set and understand the recipe and tools to brew your selected tea cube.

MASHIL 다구 사용법

어려운 절차와 복잡한 다구는 생략하고, 즐길 수 있을 만큼의 절차로 간소화했습니다.

➊ 개완 뚜껑을 연 후 보온병에 담긴 뜨거운 물을 붓고, 종지에 들어있는 큐브 차 포장을 열어 물에 떨어트립니다.
➋ 개완 뚜껑을 닫고 5분 정도 우려낸 후 뚜껑을 닫은 채로 숙우에 차를 부어 한 김 식힙니다.
➌ 숙우의 깊이에 따라 변화하는 찻물의 빛깔을 감상한 뒤에 각 잔에 차를 나눠 따릅니다. 잔에서 더 세분화된 패턴을 감상합니다.
➍ 차를 나눠 마시며 함께 찻자리를 즐긴 후, 이용시간이 지나기 전에 매장으로 돌아가 반납합니다.

MASHIL Teaware Manual

Difficult brewing procedures and complicated teawares were replaced and streamlined into a simple, enjoyable process.

➊ Open the lid on gaewan, and pour hot water from the thermos. Unwrap the cube tea inside the saucer and drop it into the water.
➋ Close the lid and let it brew for 5 minutes. With the lid closed, pour tea into sookwoo to cool it down.
➌ After enjoying the change of color according to the depth of tea, pour the tea into each cup. View the more granular patterns in the glass.
➍ After sharing and enjoying the tea together with your accompany, return the set to the store before the end of reserved usage time.

실외 환경에 적응한 다구

수직적인 형태의 MASHIL 다구는 테이블이 아닌 낮은 돗자리 위에서도 안정적으로차를 즐길 수 있게 합니다. 고객은 바닥으로부터 높이 위치한 다구를 편리하게 잡았다 내려놓을 수 있습니다.

뜨겁지 않아 편안한 그립

기존의 찻잔은 뜨거운 차를 가득 따랐을 때 과도하게 뜨거워지는 면으로 인한 파지의 불편함이 있습니다. 뜨겁지 않고 편안한 그립을 위해 MASHIL의 잔에는 실제 찻물이담기는 면과 손이 닿는 면 사이에 여유 공간이 마련되어 있습니다.

눈으로 마시는 차

각기 다른 차가 가진 빛깔을 감상하는 것은 차를 즐기는 방법의 하나입니다.다구 내부에 새겨진 패턴은 개완과 숙우, 찻잔을 구분하는 기능을 하는 동시에 깊이에 따라 변화하는 찻물의 빛깔을 풍부하게 감상할 수 있도록 합니다.

3. Return

이용 시간에 맞춰 다시 매장으로 돌아옵니다. 이후 여정에서도 취향을 이어서 발전시킬 수 있게, 메이트와 오늘 경험한 차에 대한 감상을 나누고 시스템에 기록을 남겨 이후 마실에도 참고할 수 있도록 합니다.

Return to the store when your reserved tea time ends. To develop your taste on your continuing tea journey, discuss your impression of the tea with your tea mate and leave a record in the system to refer back on your next tea picnic.
